How to Choose a Childcare Center

Choosing a childcare program that is right for your child is an important family decision. How do you know you've made the right choice? You probably search for the best information on which to base your childcare choice.
Children of America provides ten how to tips to help you in your pursuit of quality care and education for your child.
Keep the following guidelines in mind as you visit programs and make sure all ten tips are relevent.

The childcare facility is licensed by appropriate agencies.
Children of America abides by the state's rules and regulations as well as adhering to the Children of America Policies and Procedures. Look for licenses and certifications on a family bulletin board in centers.

The environment looks, smells, sounds and feels good.
Children of America knows that a parent's first reaction is when they enter the front door. Do the "senses" test as you enter a childcare center. Does it look organized, does it smell pleasant, do you hear cheerful sounds from the classrooms and does it feel like a place you’d choose for your child?

The childcare facility is secure and safe.
Children of America uses one of the most advanced security systems today. The front door is accessed by
registered families by a personal identification number to gain entry. Check out the ways in which you can
enter the childcare programs you are visiting.

Children are supervised at all times.
Children of America offers registered families an optional view of classrooms via a computer program that lets you
observe your child's classroom while you are at work. Ask if cameras are in the classrooms.

Learning is happening in the classrooms.
Children of America provides learning opportunities for each stage of a child's development through our own curriculum written by Dr. Vicki Folds. Look for or ask to see lesson plans and a daily schedule for your age child.

Children are healthy and safe.
Children of America promotes good health by observing all children as they enter for a "healthy check up" and making sure all classroom environments are hazard free. Look at the health practices from the infant diaper changing procedure to hand washing policies for clues as to a center's health and safety concerns.

Families are kept informed.
Children of America communicates with families daily through speaking and through written notes about each child
as well as encourages family members to participate in various school events. Does a director or teacher respond to
your questions with patience and knowledge?

Happy children are learning children.
Children of America's curriculum emphasizes hands-on developmentally appropriate activities that engage each child
in fun learning experiences. Watch and see that children are interacting with others and building healthy relationships.

Lead teachers are credentialed in early childhood education.
Children of America employs credentialed lead teachers as well as provides an in-house National Training Institute
for staff to obtain their Child Development Associate (CDA) credential from Washington, D.C. Ask about the
background of teachers in the centers you visit.

Choose the right childcare program for your child.
Children of America offers care and learning programs based on the high quality standards of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the National Association of childcare Resource and Referral Agency. Be looking for clean, organized, cheerful childcare centers that follow high quality practices, where teachers and children are engaging in meaningful activities and parents of children enrolled at the center know
they have made the right choice.
