The Importance of Kindergarten

Full day Kindergarten programs boost children’s cognitive learning, creative problem-solving skills and social competence.

Enroll in Children of America's Kindergarten program to ensure that your child is guaranteed access to a high-quality, full-day K experience.

Many children are missing this step in the early learning cycle by not accessing a full day, full week high quality kindergarten program. Research tells us that children who only attend a half day program may be losing a critical opportunity to develop and strengthen foundational skills necessary for success in school and lifelong learning.

Today's five-year-old must meet the learning and work force challenges of the 21st century. Full day Kindergarten is a valuable learning year to help your child navigate this important year of school.

If your state is not providing a full day Kindergarten program ask your COA center director for Kindergarten information.

Week of the Young Child Children of America

Our schools are participating in the Week of the Young Child (WOYC) in April. This event is in collaboration with NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children.

The 2012 Week of the Young Child will be held April 22–28 and the theme for 2012 is Early Years Are Learning Years.

Each school develops events which honor young children and thank teachers and all those who make a difference in young children’s lives. Do your part and thank a teacher!

March highlights the role of artists as our community helper. Encourage your children to become more aware of visual representation in our world by sharing pictures, paintings, sculpture, etc.

We focus on Florists as our community helper for the month of April. As we turn to spring time curriculum themes we are learning to appreciate how a florist provides our families and friends with colorful flowers and plants that add to the beauty of our community.

May recognizes athletes and their contribution to our community through sports events, etc.

Your child is learning every day at Children of America. Teachers are observing and recording your child's growth and building a portfolio system of work of our preschool age children.

During your next preschool conference ask to see your child's portfolio for a year of writing samples, scissor cutting and drawings showing marked improvement in these skills.

Our preschool age groups are busy learning through our Journeys into Early Music, Tray Tasking and Spanish programs - all of which prepare your child for Kindergarten.
